Both diabetes and cardiovascular disease are national health priorities. It is well recognised that indigenous people suffer an excessive burden of vascular disease. Vascular disease is the primary cause of preventable mortality and morbidity in indigenous Australians, who have a far higher prevalence of cardiovascular disease, renal disease, diabetes, and stroke, compared with non-indigenous populations.
